What is JUNETEENTH and why do we celebrate it?
On June 19, 1865, two months after the end of the Civil War, a Union general arrived in Galveston, Texas, to finally inform enslaved Black people of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended.
We celebrate it, as it marks a date of major significance in American history and represents the ways in which freedom for Black people has been delayed.
This year we celebrate on Saturday, June 19 as a day to learn, reflect, and grow as a nation and as a people.
